The cord, also known as a Plug-It cable, comes in two versions. One version is 18 gauge for all lower power tools (sanders, jigsaws, etc) and the other is 16 gauge for higher powered tools such as routers and panel saws. The thinner gauge cord is a little more flexible, which is nice on sanders.
The way to tell the cords apart is the heavier cord has a straight top and the thinner cord has an extra notch. All the heavier gauge cords will fit in any plug-it tool, but the thinner gauge cord will not connect to the heavier tools.
It’s important when you connect a cord to a tool to make sure you twist it an entire quarter turn so that it makes good contact inside the socket. Otherwise, over time the connection will arc, carbonizing, and requiring replacement of both socket and plug.
We also stock a super long cord which is handy in some applications.
Replacement 18-gauge power cord is 13 feet long. Delivered as standard equipment with jigsaws, MFK 700 router, Domino joiner, and sanders. Does not work with TS plunge-cut saws as well as OF 1010 and OF 1400 routers. More flexible than higher 16-gauge cord. Be sure that when the cord is inserted into the tool port that you give it a quarter turn to the right in order to lock it properly and avoid premature wear out.
